Strategic Thinking, Communication Planning & Facilitation

Corporate—natural gas

Lisa conducted key research activities in support of natural gas advocacy and corporate responsibility. She also worked collaboratively with various teams to create key messages, proof points and key communications tactics in support of messages and audiences. And she developed several communications strategies, discussion papers/frameworks as well as implemented tactical plans in the areas of natural gas advocacy, stakeholder engagement, community programs, water management and corporate responsibility. Lisa was recognized by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers for contributions to a communications working committee. Additionally, Lisa facilitated a team planning session, audience identification and project planning sessions.

Lisa provided strategic communications advice to senior management in the face of competitive issues, regulatory challenges, cost effectiveness measures, environmental issues and merger impacts. Her experience included internal communications planning and counsel during a major merger.

Corporate--utilities

Lisa helped to build the employee culture for a new subsidiary. Within a two-week period, she facilitated 13 information-gathering focus groups of over 100 employees, which resulted in presentations to senior leaders including the CEO. These results were critical because they indicated not only the communication and information needs of the staff, but also the training needs, customer concerns and overall success indicators. Lisa created a communications strategy and timeline implemented the first phase of the communications plan.

Not-for-profit

This umbrella organization of about 80 partners was at a stage where their governance and business strategy were formulated, and they needed a communications plan aligned with their business strategy. Lisa conducted a website analysis, literature review and interviews with the directors, as well as a review of their existing research. She developed a communications plan that included key messages, an “elevator” speech as well as a detailed timeline.

Government—Federal & Municipal

Lisa presented “Employee Relations 101” and successful case studies to more than 40 managers from across Canada (federal government department).

Lisa created and co-facilitated a workshop on internal communications consulting with municipal communicators from across Alberta. Participants indicated that they found the session pragmatic and valuable, and that they would like more on the topic.

Lisa also spent six years at The City of Calgary learning the challenges and opportunities around successfully promoting important programs to the citizens of Calgary. There she focused on community relations, public consultation, communications planning, communications consulting for internal City clients and media relations.
